A very good crowd of 31,264 was in attendance for Day 1 of the third and final test (Jan 4 2023, Wednesday) between Australia and South Africa at the MCG. The day was affected by rain and bad light, with Australia finishing on 147/2 after having chosen to bat first- only 47 overs of play were possible of the allotted 90.
The SCG third test Day 1 crowd was better than the 29,306 who turned up in Brisbane but less than half of the 64,876 strong crowd at the MCG in Melbourne on Boxing Day for the second test’s opening day.
27,663 were present on Day 2 when Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith both struck hundreds as Australia moved to 475/4. No play was possible on Day 3, but still, the SCG had 23,915 fans arrive at the venue. Day 4 had only 59 overs of play possible and saw a crowd of 19,134 turn up in the NSW capital.
Day 5 at the SCG for Australia South Africa saw an official attendance of 20,470- the game ended in a draw.
