Mohammed Shami claimed 4/76 as New Zealand finished on 249, thereby taking a handy lead of 32 runs on Day 4 of the WTC final on Tuesday.
Resuming at overnight score of 101/2, Shami provided the breakthrough by dismissing Ross Taylor caught brilliantly at covers by Gill.
Ishant Sharma then got into the act by claiming Henry Nicholls caught at second slip by Rohit Sharma. Shami backed it up with a superb delivery to remove BJ Watling, leaving Black Caps reeling at 135/5.
The pair of Kane Williamson along with Colin de Grandhomme steadied the ship with a solid 27 run stand for the sixth wicket before the latter was trapped leg before wicket.
Kyle Jamieson scored a 21-ball 16 before being caught by Bumrah at deep backward square leg.
Skipper Williamson along with Tim Southee, took New Zealand past India’s first innings before the former (49) fell one run short of a well deserved half-century as he dabbed at a wide delivery from Ishant Sharma to Virat Kohli at slips
Tim Southee struck some some lusty blows in the end to ensure that New Zealand claimed a handy 32 run lead.
Shami (4/76) became the first Indian to take a four-wicket haul in an ICC tournament final, while Ishant Sharma claimed 3 wickets.
India lost two wickets in their second innings and ended the day at 64/2 with an overall lead of 32. Tim Southee dismissed both Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma leg before wicket for 8 & 30 respectively.
Skipper Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara were unbeaten at the crease.
