India vs New Zealand WTC Final Day 1 Southampton Match Report 2021

Indian skipper Virat Kohli along with Ajinkya Rahane remained unbeaten on 44 & 29 respectively as India ended Day 1 of the WTC final against New Zealand at 146/3 at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton before bad light led to an early close on Saturday.

After being asked to bat first by New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, India’s opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill got their team off to a solid start. The duo added 62 runs for the opening wicket, before the former edged a Kyle Jamieson delivery to Tim Southee at third slip for 34.

Gill followed soon for 28 edging left-arm seamer Neil Wagner to wicket keeper BJ Watling. Cheteshwar Pujara’s painstaking stay at the crease ended when he was trapped leg before wicket by Trent Boult.

Skipper Virat Kohli (44)* and Ajinkya Rahane (29)* led India’s fight back with an unbeaten 58 for the fourth wicket before bad light forced early stumps.

The visitors ended up with 146/3.

This was actually Day 2 because Day 1 of the opening test {june 18) was washed out due to Rain because the ICC has a reserved day, we have kept Day 2 as Day 1
