Kyle Jamieson claimed 5/31 and opener Devon Conway scored a fluent half century as New Zealand finished strongly at 101/2 at the end of the Day 2 of the one off test at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton on Sunday.
Resuming at 146/3, skipper Virat Kohli was dismissed leg before wicket by Jamieson for his overnight score of 44.
Rishabh Pant tried to take on the tall pacer but only managed to edge one to second slip. Ajinkya Rahane fell one short of what would have been a deserving half century, as he mistimed a short ball from Neil Wagner to square leg.
The pair of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin added 23 runs for the seventh wicket before the latter edged a Tim Southee delivery to Tom Latham.
Jamieson claimed the wickets of Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah off consecutive deliveries to complete a fifer.
Ravindra Jadeja was the last man to be dismissed to be caught down leg side as India were bowled out for 217.
The 26 year old Jamieson was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 5/31, while Neil Wagner and Trent Boult claimed 2 wickets each.
New Zealand’s opening pair of Tom Latham and Devon Conway got their team off to a fantastic start. The pair added 70 runs for the opening wicket before Ashwin provided the much needed breakthrough by dismissing Latham caught at short extra cover by Kohli for 30.
Conway along with skipper Kane Williamson added 31 runs for the second wicket before the former flicked a Ishant delivery to mid on fielder Mohammed Shami.
The Blackcaps still trail by 116 runs with 8 wickets in hand.
