Tammy Beaumont and Natalie Sciver scored respective half centuries as England Women defeated India Women by 8 wickets in the first one day international on Sunday.
After being asked to bat first by the home skipper, the visitors lost openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana for 15 & 10 respectively.
The pair of Punam Raut and Mithali Raj added 56 runs for the third wicket stand before the former was caught at mid off by Sophie Ecclestone off Kate Cross for 32.
Harmanpreet Kaur departed cheaply leaving the visitors in a spot of bother at 84/4. Skipper Raj along with Deepti Sharma resurrected the innings with a solid 65 run stand for the fifth wicket before the latter was trapped leg before wicket by Anya Shrubsole.
The 38-year-old skipper scored a 108-ball 72 to take India to a modest total of 201/8 after 50 overs. Sophie Ecclestone was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/40, while Katherine Brunt and Anya Shrubsole claimed 2 wickets each.
Chasing 202, England lost Lauren Winfield Hill early to Jhulan Goswami for 16. The duo of Tammy Beaumont and Heather Knight added 59 runs for the second wicket before the latter was bowled by Ekta Bisht.
Beaumont (87)* and Natalie Sciver (74)* added an unbroken 119 run stand for the third wicket to take England to a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. For India Jhulan Goswami and Pooja Vastrakar picked up a wicket each.
The second one day international will be played on 30 June, Wednesday.
