KL Rahul scored a sparkling century as the visitors dominated Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test against South Africa in Centurion on Sunday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, openers Mayank Agarwal and Rahul got India off to a fantastic start. The pair added 117 runs for the opening wicket before Lungi Ngidi struck twice- first by dismissing Agarwal leg before wicket for 60 and then dismissing Cheteshwar Pujara for a first ball duck.
The pair of Rahul and skipper Virat Kohli stitched together a 82 run stand for the third wicket before the latter chased a wide delivery outside off and was caught at first slip by Wiaan Mulder for 35.
At the end of Day 1, India were in a commanding position at 272/3, with vice captain Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane unbeaten on 122 and 40 respectively.
For South Africa Lungi Ngidi was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/45.
