Australia vs England Third Test Day 1 Melbourne Match Report 2021

Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon claimed 3 wickets each as the hosts dominated Day 1 of the third test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

After being asked to bat first by Australia skipper, England started disastrously by losing Haseeb Hameed as he nicked at a Pat Cummins delivery to Alex Carey behind the stumps for a duck.

Zak Crawley who came in place of Rory Burns, nicked a Cummins delivery to Cameron Green at gully for 12. Dawid Malan along with skipper Joe Root resurrected the innings with a solid 48 run stand for the third wicket before the former fell just before lunch for 14.

After scoring a fine half century skipper Joe Root fell to Mitchell Starc. Ben Stokes looked good in his knock of 25, before falling to Cameron Green caught at point for 25.

Jos Buttler (3) fell cheaply leaving the visitors in a spot of bother at 128/5. Scott Boland claimed his maiden wicket by trapping Mark Wood (6) right in front of the stumps. Jonny Bairstow on his come back scored a defiant 35 before falling to Starc.

Lyon claimed the wickets of Jack Leach (13) and Ollie Robinson (22) as England were bundled out for 185 in 65.1 overs.

Australia reached 61/1, with David Warner departing for 38. Marcus Harris remained unbeaten on 20 off 51 balls, as Australia trail by 124 runs.
