Trailblazers started their campaign with a bang as they mauled Velocity by nine wickets in the second Women’s league match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Velocity started badly by losing Shafali Verma to Jhulan Goswami for 13. The duo of Goswami and Sophie Ecclestone wrecked the top order by claiming the wickets of Mithali Raj, Veda Krishnamurthy, Danni Wyatt and Sushma Verma in quick succession leaving them reeling at 21/5.
None of the batswomen from Velocity showed application, as they were routed for 47 in 15.1 overs.
This was the lowest total in the IPL history beating the earlier record of the Royal Challengers Bangalore score of 49 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
For Trailblazers, Ecclestone was the pick of the bowlers for Trailblazers with figures of 4/9, while Goswami and Rajeshwari Gayakwad claimed 2 wickets each.
Chasing a target of 48, the pair of Smriti Mandhana and Deandra Dottin got their team off to a steady start, before the former was caught at mid-on by Jahanara Alam off Leigh Kasperk for 6.
Richa Ghosh and Dottin added an unbeaten 37 run stand as Trailblazers reached the target of 48 in 7.5 overs.
Sophie Ecclestone was declared the Man of the Match for her brilliant performance with the ball.
