Kane Williamson scored his second half century as the Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
Royal Challengers dropped Chris Morris, Josh Philipe, Shahbaz Ahmed and Isuru Udana and included Adam Zampa, Navdeep Saini, Aaron Finch and Moeen Ali, while SRH included Shreevats Goswami in place of Wriddhiman Saha.
After being sent in by Sunrisers, Virat Kohli’s decision to open the batting backfired as Jason Holder dismissed the skipper for 6 in the 2nd over. Holder accounted for Devdutt Padikkal in his next over to leave RCB in trouble at 15 for 2.
The pair of Aaron Finch and AB De Villiers resurrected the innings with a 41 run stand for the third wicket, before the former fell to Shahbaz Nadeem for 32.
Moeen Ali playing his third match was run out by Rashid Khan on a free hit as RCB were reeling at 62/4.
De Villiers was the lone man standing, as he smashed 56 off 43 balls to take RCB to 131/7 at the end of 20 overs.
Jason Holder was Sunrisers best bowler with figures of 3/25, while T Natarajan claimed 2 wickets.
Chasing 132, Hyderabad started on a bad note by losing Goswami to Mohammed Siraj for a duck in the first over.
David Warner and Manish Pandey stitched together a 41 run stand for the second wicket before the former was dismissed controversially by Siraj for 17.
The spin duo of Adam Zampa and Yuzvendra Chahal pulled things for RCB by snaring the wickets of Manish Pandey and Priyam Garg leaving Sunrisers in a spot of bother at 67/4.
Kane Williamson and Jason Holder held their nerve and added 65 runs for the fifth wicket, as Hyderabad reached the target of 132 with 2 balls to spare.
Siraj was Bangalore’s best bowler with figures of 2/28.
Kane Williamson was declared the Player of the Match.
