Supernovas vs Velocity 4 November Match Report- WIPL 2020

Sune Luus scored a quickfire 37, as Velocity defeated the Supernovas by five wickets in the first match of the Women’s T20 challenge in Sharjah on Wednesday.

After being sent into bat by Velocity skipper Mithali Raj, Supernovas opening duo of Priya Punia and Chamari Atapattu made a solid beginning by adding 30 runs for the opening wicket, before the former fell to Leigh Kasperek.

Jemimah Rodrigues failed to get going as she fell for a 8 ball-7.

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Atapattu stitched together a valuable 47 run stand for the third wicket, before the latter was dismissed by Jahanara Alam for a well made 44.

Shashikala Siriwardene alongside Kaur added 22 runs, before the latter was caught at short fine leg by Shikha Pandey off Alam.

The Supernovas ended up with 126/8 at the end of their allotted 20 overs.

Left arm spinner Ekta Bisht was the pick of the bowlers, with figures of 3/22, while Jahanara Alam and Kasperek claimed 2 wickets each.

Chasing 127, Velocity started disastrously by losing England opener Danni Wyatt for a duck.

Shafali Verma and skipper Mithali Raj were dismissed cheaply, as Velocity were in a spot of bother at 38/3.

The pair of Veda Krishnamurthy alongside Sushma Verma anchored the innings with a valuable 27 run partnership, before Radha Yadav provided the breakthrough by dismissing the former for 29.

Sushma was involved in yet another useful 51 run stand with Sune Luus, before the former was caught in the deep by skipper Kaur off Poonam Yadav for a well made 34.

Luus smashed an unbeaten 37 off 21 balls, as Velocity reached the target with one ball to spare.

Ayabonga Khaka was Supernovas best bowler with figures of 2/27, while Radha Yadav, Poonam Yadav and Siriwardene claimed a wicket each.

South Africa’s Sune Luus was declared the Player of the Match.

The second match of the Women’s T20 Challenge would be played between Velocity and Trailblazers on November 5.
