Du Plessis led from the front by scoring a fine unbeaten 73 as The Royal Challengers Bangalore comfortably defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 67 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Bangalore suffered an early jolt as former skipper Virat Kohli chipped a length ball from Jagadeesha Suchith straight to Kane Williamson at short mid wicket for a golden duck.
Du Plessis along with Rajat Patidar featured in a 105 run stand for the second wicket before the latter was caught at deep midwicket boundary by Rahul Tripathi off left arm spinner Suchith.
Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik put on 59 runs for the third wicket before Kartik Tyagi dismissed the former, caught at long on by Aiden Markram.
In the end, Karthik launched Fazalhaq Farooqi for three consecutive sixes and a four to take RCB to 192/3 in their allotted 20 overs.
For Sunrisers, Jagadeesha Suchith was the pick of the bowlers of 2/30.
Chasing 193, Sunrisers got off to a horrible start as captain Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma fell in the first over.
The pair of Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram put on 50 runs for the third wicket before the latter (21) holed out to deep midwicket off Wanindu Hasaranga.
Nicholas Pooran fell cheaply, splicing the ball towards short third man off leg spinner Hasaranga for 19.
Jagadeesha Suchith (2) was stumped after failing to read a wrong’un from Hasaranga.
Josh Hazlewood ended Sunrisers hopes by dismissing Tripathi for a fighting 58, caught at deep backward square by Lomror.
Kartik Tyagi fell the very next ball, top-edging a pull to Patidar at point.
Hazlewood, Hasaranga and Harshal Patel claimed the remaining batters, as SRH were bundled out for a paltry score of 125, giving RCB a thumping win.
Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva was Bangalore’s best bowler with figures of 5/18.
Royal Challengers Bangalore 192 for 3 (du Plessis, 73*, Patidar 48, Suchith 2-30) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 125 (Tripathi 58, Hasaranga 5-18, Hazlewood 2-17) by 67 runs
