South Africa vs Sri Lanka Group 1 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup October 30 Sharjah Dubai Match Report 2021

David Miller scored a quickfire unbeaten 23 as South Africa registered a thrilling four-wicket victory against Sri Lanka at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

After being asked to bat first by Proteas skipper, Anrich Nortje struck early by dismissing Kusal Perera bowled for 7 while going for a heave.

Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka added 41 runs for the second wicket before the latter was run out by a brilliant throw from Rabada at mid wicket.

Tabraiz Shamsi pegged Sri Lanka back with wickets of Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Avishka Fernando and Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva as they lost half the side with the score on 91.

Dasun Shanaka departed cheaply, caught at sweeper cover by Kagiso Rabada for 11.

Nissanka’s breezy innings ended as he miscued a Dwaine Pretorius slower delivery to deep square-leg for 72. His knock came off 58 balls with six fours and three sixes.

Nortje then cleaned up Chameera as Sri Lanka were all out for 142.

Shamsi and Pretorius claimed 3 wickets each for South Africa.

Chasing 143, Dushmantha Chameera got the Lankans off to a good start by dismissing both Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock for 11 & 12 respectively.

Rassie van der Dussen (16) was run out by a brilliant throw by Shanaka at covers as South Africa were reduced for 49/3.

Skipper Temba Bavuma along with Aiden Markram steadied the ship with a solid 47 run stand for the fourth wicket before the Wanindu Hasaranga broke the stand by dismissing Markram for 19.

Hasaranga in the 18th over removed Bavuma and Pretorius to pick up his hat-trick.

However David Miller provided a last flourish towards the end by smashing an unbeaten 13 ball-26, as South Africa reached the target with one ball to spare.

Tabraiz Shamsi was declared the Man of the Match.
