After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Sunrisers opener Jonny Bairstow got a reprieve early on in the game, as MS Dhoni dropped a relatively easy catch down the leg side.

Bairstow failed to capitalise on the opportunity, as he miscued a Sam Curran delivery to Deepak Chahar at deep backward square leg.

David Warner and Manish Pandey added 122 runs for the second wicket, before Lungi Ngidi dismissed both Warner and Pandey in the 18th over while trying to look for quick runs.

A late flourish from Kane Williamson and Kedar Jadhav guided the Sunrisers to 171/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing 172, Chennai Super Kings’ opening pair of Faf Du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad got their team off to a fantastic start. The duo added 129 runs for the opening stand before the latter was bowled by a superb delivery from Rashid Khan for a brilliant 75. His knock came off 44 balls with 12 boundaries.

Moeen Ali smashed three boundaries in his 8 ball 15 before being caught at wide long on by Kedar Jadhav. In the very next ball, star Afghanistan leg spinner Rashid trapped Du Plessis leg before wicket for 56.

Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on seven and 17 respectively as CSK reached the target with nine balls to spare.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was declared the Man of the Match for his enterprising knock.
