Ravindra Jadeja smashed an unbeaten 62 off 28 balls as Chennai Super Kings thumped Royal Challengers Bangalore by 69 runs in Mumbai on Sunday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Chennai Super Kings got off to a good start as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis added 74 runs for the opening wicket. Yuzvendra Chahal finally broke the partnership by dismissing the former caught at deep square leg for 33.
Suresh Raina smashed three sixes during his 18-ball 24 before falling to Harshal Patel. In the very next ball, Du Plessis was caught at long-on by Dan Christian for a well made 50.
Ravi Jadeja after being dropped by Dan Christian off Washington Sundar at extra cover, hammered five sixes off Harshal Patel in the last over to propel CSK to 191/4. In all 37 runs were taken, equalling the record for the most expensive over in IPL history.
Chasing 192, Royal Challengers Bangalore opening pair of Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal got their team off to a blazing start. The duo added 44 runs before Kohli edged a Sam Curran delivery behind the stumps for 8.
Padikkal’s brief stay at the crease ended when he mistimed a Shardul Thakur pull to Suresh Raina at backward square leg for a quickfire 34. Washington Sundar who was promoted at No 3 failed to get going, as he was caught at deep midwicket by Gaikwad.
Jadeja claimed the prize scalps of Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers and also effected the run-out of Dan Christian.
Veteran South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir picked up 2 wickets and also produced a superb direct hit to run out Kyle Jamieson as Royal Challengers ended up with 122/9, giving Chennai a comprehensive 69 run win.
The 32 year old Indian all rounder was declared the Man of the Match for his magnificent all round effort.
