After being asked to bat first by Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals got off to a fantastic start as Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan added 94 runs for the opening stand, before Dhawan departed leg before wicket while trying an ambitious reverse sweep off Piyush Chawla.

Chasing 176, Chennai Super Kings opening pair of Shane Watson and Murali Vijay started cautiously by putting on 23 runs for the opening stand, before Axar Patel provided the breakthrough by dismissing Watson for 14.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (5) who came into to bat at No 4, fell cheaply after being run out in the 10th over.
Kedhar Jadhav and Faf anchored the innings with a 54 run stand for the fifth wicket, before Jadhav after scoring a fine 26 was dismissed leg before wicket by Nortje.
