Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings 23 October Match Report 2020

Trent Boult snared four wickets and Ishan Kishan scored a blistering unbeaten 68, as MI completed a comprehensive 10 wicket win over CSK at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

The Super Kings made lots of changes by bringing back Ruturaj Gaikwad, N Jagadeesan and Imran Tahir in place of Shane Watson, Kedar Jadhav and Piyush Chawla, while Mumbai brought in Saurabh Tiwary for the injured Rohit Sharma.

After being sent in by stand in skipper Kieron Pollard, the Super Kings got off to a horrendous start as Trent Boult, and Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc with the new ball. Youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed leg before wicket by Boult in the very first over.

Bumrah then got into the act by dismissing both Ambati Rayudu and N Jagadeesan in successive deliveries for 2 & 0 respectively.

Faf Du Plessis became Boult’s second victim as he was caught behind by wicket keeper in attempting to drive a wide ball.

Pollard’s gamble of giving the New Zealand left armer an extra over worked, as he had Ravi Jadeja caught at short mid wicket by Krunal Pandya.

MS Dhoni took on Rahul Chahar by smacking him for a huge six, but the spinner came back strongly as he had the veteran nicking one to De Kock on the very next delivery, as Chennai slumped to 30/6.

Sam Curran, who had been opening the batting in the past few games, was pushed down the order and the 22-year-old talented all rounder along with Shardul Thakur added 28 runs for the eight wicket stand, before the latter fell to Nathan Coulter-Nile.

Curran was involved in yet another valuable 43 run partnership with Imran Tahir to propel Chennai to a some what respectable 114/9 at the end of 20 overs.

Boult was Mumbai Indians best bowler with figures of 4/18, while Bumrah and Rahul Chahar claimed 2 wickets each.

Chasing 115, the opening pair of Ishan Kishan and Quinton de Kock took apart the Chennai bowling by adding an unbroken 116 run stand, as Mumbai Indians chased the target in just 12.2 overs.

With this win, Mumbai jump to the top of the table with 14 points, while Chennai Super Kings languish at the bottom of the table.
