Team India have officially announced their playing XI for the second test against Australia at Melbourne starting December 26, Saturday.

The visitors will miss regular skipper and star batsman Virat Kohli who is on a paternity leave and pace bowler Mohammed Shami who injured his arm during the first Test.

Vice captain Ajinkya Rahane will be taking over the reins for the remaining three tests.

Young Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj will be making their test debut. The former will come in place of Prithvi Shaw, while the latter will be replacing Shami as the third seamer.

All rounder Ravindra Jadeja after being hit on the head in the first T20 international also makes a comeback. Rishabh Pant will take over the gloves from veteran Wriddhiman Saha.

Four of the centuries yielded in an Indian win- Sunil Gavaskar in 1977, Gundappa Viswanath in 1981, Cheteshwar Pujara in 2018 & Ajinkya Rahane in the year 2020.

What is the highest test score by an Indian at MCG?

Virender Sehwag, who scored 195 in the year 2003.

Who was the first Indian batsman to score a test hundred at MCG?

Vinoo Mankad in the year 1948.

Who was the last Indian batsman to score a test century at MCG?

Ajinkya Rahane was the last Indian to score a test century (2020). Before him, it was Cheteshwar Pujara in 2018.

Rahane is also the only Indian to score two centuries at the MCG- he did in 2014 as well.

Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins wrecked the Indian batting line up in the first session, as the home side thumped the visitors by 8 wickets in the opening day and night Test at Adelaide on Saturday.

Ravi Ashwin claimed four wickets as India took control on Day 2 of the opening Test at Adelaide on Friday.

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, somewhat interestingly, was seen wearing torn shoes in the first test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval earlier today (December 18, 2020- Friday). His left boot had a hole it in, as can seen in the picture below.

Why is Shami wearing torn shoes?

The reason is apparently for the left toe to be free at the point of landing while bowling.

Shami came on as first change in this pink ball test, with Jasprit Bumrah and Umesh Yadav being given the new ball.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli scored a fine 74, as India ended Day 1 of the opening day night test at the Adelaide Oval on 233 for 6 against Australia on Thursday.
