India XI for Melbourne Test 2020- Gill & Siraj to debut, Jadeja, Pant in XI

Team India have officially announced their playing XI for the second test against Australia at Melbourne starting December 26, Saturday.

The visitors will miss regular skipper and star batsman Virat Kohli who is on a paternity leave and pace bowler Mohammed Shami who injured his arm during the first Test.

Vice captain Ajinkya Rahane will be taking over the reins for the remaining three tests.

Young Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj will be making their test debut. The former will come in place of Prithvi Shaw, while the latter will be replacing Shami as the third seamer.

All rounder Ravindra Jadeja after being hit on the head in the first T20 international also makes a comeback. Rishabh Pant will take over the gloves from veteran Wriddhiman Saha.

Ravi Ashwin claimed four wickets as India took control on Day 2 of the opening Test at Adelaide on Friday.

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, somewhat interestingly, was seen wearing torn shoes in the first test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval earlier today (December 18, 2020- Friday). His left boot had a hole it in, as can seen in the picture below.

Why is Shami wearing torn shoes?

The reason is apparently for the left toe to be free at the point of landing while bowling.
