Fine hundreds from skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, and half centuries from debutant Devdutt Padikkal and Sarfaraz Khan put India in a dominant position at the end of Day 2 of the fifth test against England in Dharamsala on Friday.
Resuming at 135/1, the overnight pair of Rohit and Gill added 140 more runs before Ben Stokes dismissed his opposite number with a beauty for a fine 103.
In the very next over, James Anderson claimed his 699th test wicket by knocking over Gill for 110.
Devdutt Padikkal and Sarfaraz Khan featured in a 97 run stand for the fourth wicket stand before the latter (56) was caught at slip by Joe Root off Bashir in the very first delivery off the final session.
Padikkal reached his maiden fifty by launching Bashir for a maximum. However the off spinner hit back by dismissing the left hander (65) with the one that turned.
