Kuldeep Yadav claimed figures of 5/72 as India bowled out England for 218 at the end of Day 1 of the fifth test in Dharamsala on Thursday.
The hosts made 2 changes with debutant Devdutt Padikkal and Jasprit Bumrah replacing Rajat Patidar and Akash Deep, while the visitors on the other hand included Mark Wood for Ollie Robinson.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett got England off to a solid start. The pair added 64 runs for the opening stand before the latter miscued a lofted shot off Kuldeep to Shubman Gill who took a fine running catch for 27.
Ollie Pope was stumped by left arm spinner Kuldeep just at the stroke of lunch for 11. Crawly looked solid in his knock off 79, before being cleaned up by Yadav while attempting a drive.
Jonny Bairstow joined in and looked dangerous in his innings of 29, before being caught caught behind the stumps while attempting a drive.
Ravi Jadeja then got into the act by trapping Joe Root right in front of the stumps as the visitors lost half their side for 175.
England slumped even further as skipper Ben Stokes was caught right in the front of the stumps off Kuldeep for a duck.
Ravi Ashwin in his 100th test ran through England’s lower order by bagging 4/51 as they were bowled out for 218.
In response, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal got India off to a fantastic start. The duo added 104 runs for the opening stand before the latter was stumped by Ben Foakes while attempting a slog off Shoaib Bashir for a fine 57.
Rohit and Shubman Gill were unbeaten on 52 & 26 as India finished at 135/1 at stumps.
