Matheesha Pathirana claimed figures of 3/15 as Chennai Super Kings beat Mumbai Indians by six wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday.
After being asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians opened the innings with Cameron Green and Ishan Kishan. However the former (6) did not last long, as he missed a pull and was cleaned up by Tushar Deshpande.
Ishan Kishan (7) then skyed a flick off Deepak Chahar to Maheesh Theekshana. MI slipped even further as skipper Rohit Sharma (0) lobbed a catch to Ravindra Jadeja at point off Deepak Chahar while attempting a scoop.
Suryakumar Yadav (26) looked good for a brief while before being cleaned up Jadeja. Nehal Wadhera reached his maiden fifty off just 46 balls. However his impressive knock off 64 ended when he was bowled by a magnificent yorker from Pathirana, as MI reached 139/8 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 140, openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway got Chennai Super Kings off to a blazing start. The duo added 46 runs for the opening stand before Gaikwad top edged an attempted pull off Piyush Chawla for a 16 ball-30.
Conway along with Ajinkya Rahane added 35 runs for the second wicket before the latter was trapped leg before wicket by a googly from Chawla for 21.
Ambati Rayudu was then caught at short third man by Raghav Goyal off Tristan Stubbs for 12. Conway featured in yet another valuable 25 run stand for the fourth wicket alongside Shivam Dube before the former was dismissed leg before wicket by Akash Madhwal.
Skipper MS Dhoni (2*) hit the winning runs by pulling Arshad Khan for a single, as the Super Kings overhauled the target of 140 in 17.4 overs.
