A stunning crowd of 53,886 was in attendance at the Optus Stadium in Perth for the 2022/23 Big Bash League final earlier today. Home side Perth Scorchers successfully defended their title in front of their fans as they edged Brisbane Heat in a last over thriller.
Perth have consistently had the best attendances in BBL12– this near 54k crowd was the biggest one of the current BBL season, and is a record crowd for any BBL final.
Brisbane Heat fans thought they had the match in their grasp when Ashton Turner was run out in the 18th over after a terrible mix-up with Nick Hobson. The Scorchers still needed 40 off 20 at that stage, but young Cooper Connolly held his nerve with a quickfire 24*(10) and Hobson finished the game with a six and a four from two Michael Neser full tosses in the final over.
