Ravichandran Ashwin’s fighting 58, followed up by a brilliant spells from Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj helped India take firm control at the end of Day 2 of the opening test at Chattogram on Thursday.
Resuming at an overnight score of 278/6, the visitors lost Shreyas Iyer (86) early as he was knocked over by a superb delivery from Ebadot Hossain.
The pair of Ravi Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav kept the Bangladesh bowlers at bay with a crucial eight wicket stand of 92 runs before the former was stumped by Mehidy Hasan Miraz for a fine 58.
Taijul Islam then got into the act by trapping Kuldeep (40).
Umesh Yadav struck couple of massive sixes to take India past the 400 run mark. However Mehidy wrapped up the innings by dismissing Mohammed Siraj (4) as the visitors were bowled out for 404.
In response, Bangladesh got off to a horror start by losing Najmul Hossain Shanto to Siraj for a golden duck.
Yasir Ali (4) then chopped at a delivery from Umesh Yadav onto his stumps. Litton Das along with Zakir Hasan resurrected the innings with a solid 34 run stand for the third wicket before the former (24) was dismissed by Siraj.
The 28 year old Siraj also claimed Zakir (20) edging one to wicket keeper Rishabh Pant behind the stumps. Kuldeep Yadav then dismissed skipper Shakib Al Hasan (3) as the hosts lost half their side for 75.
Left arm spinner Kuldeep claimed his second wicket when Nurul Hasan (16) fell to a brilliant reflex catch by Shubman Gill at short leg.
Mushfiqur Rahim (28) and Taijul Islam (0) both fell in quick succession leaving Bangladesh in big trouble at 102/8.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Ebadot Hossain saw the day through without any further alarms as the hosts ended Day 2 at 133/8, still trailing India by 271 runs.
