Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur lead from the front by scoring an unbeaten 31 as India Women defeated Sri Lanka Women by 5 wickets in the second T20I to take an unassailable 2-0 lead the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Saturday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Sri Lanka women opening pair of Vishmi Gunaratne and skipper Chamari Athapaththu got their side off to a fantastic start. The duo added 87 runs for the opening stand before the latter perished to Pooja Vastrakar for 43.
Kaur then got into the act by dismissing Gunaratne, caught and bowled for 45. The dismissal of Harshitha Samarawickrama opened the flood gates as the hosts ended up with 125/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Deepti Sharma was the pick of the bowlers for India Women with figures of 2/34.
Chasing 126, Smriti Mandhana along with Shafali Verma got India Women off to a steady start. The duo added 30 runs for the opening wicket before the latter fell to Oshadi Ranasinghe for 17.
Inoka Ranaweera struck a vital blow by dismissing the well set Mandhana stumped by wicket keeper Sanjeewani for a 34 ball-39.
Jemimah Rodrigues (3) departed cheaply as the visitors slumped to 91/4. However Harmanpreet held her nerves by scoring a valuable unbeaten 31, as India Women overhauled the target of 126 with 5 balls to spare.
For Sri Lanka Women Oshadi Ranasinghe and Inoka Ranaweera bagged two wickets each.
