India Women vs Sri Lanka Women First T20I Dambulla June 23 Match Report 2022

Jemimah Rodrigues scored a valuable unbeaten 27 ball-36 as India Women defeated Sri Lanka Women by 34 runs at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Thursday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, India got off to a disastrous start by losing wickets of Smriti Mandhana and Sabbhineni Meghana early.

The pair of Shafali Verma and Harmanpreet Kaur stitched together a 39 run stand for the third wicket before the former perished to Chamari Athapaththu, caught at long on by De Silva.

Ranaweera then claimed wickets of Kaur, Richa Gosh and Pooja Vastrakar as India slumped to 106/6.

However fine cameos from Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma propelled India reach a competitive score of 138/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

Inoka Ranaweera was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka with figures of 3/30.

Chasing 139, Deepti Sharma got India off to a fine start by dismissing Vishmi Gunaratne (1) in the second over.

Chamari Athapaththu and Harshitha Madavi added 26 runs for the second wicket before left arm spinner Radha Yadav struck twice- first by dismissing skipper Athapaththu and then claiming Harshitha for 16 & 10 respectively.

Shafali Verma claimed her maiden wicket by claiming Ama Kanchana stumped by Gosh for 11.

Kavisha Dilhari remained unbeaten on 47 from 49 balls, but failed to get support from the other end, as the hosts could only muster 104/5 in 20 overs, thereby losing the contest by 34 runs.

Radha Yadav was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/22.

Rodrigues was adjudged the Player of the Match.
