Wriddhiman Saha scored a magnificent unbeaten 67 as Gujarat Titans defeated the Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Chennai lost Devon Conway (5) early with a peach of a delivery that angled in from round the wicket and took the edge.
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali added a solid 57 run stand for the second wicket before the latter was caught at deep midwicket boundary by Rashid Khan off Sai Kishore for 21.
Gaikwad featured in yet another 48 run stand for the third wicket alongside Narayan Jagadeesan before the former perished to Rashid for a fine 53.
Shivam Dube perished for a second ball duck, top-edging a bouncer off Alzarri Joseph to Saha behind the stumps.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni failed to provide a late flourish, as the Super Kings ended up with with 133/5 after 20 overs.
Chasing 134, Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill got Gujarat off to a solid start. The pair put on 59 runs for the opening stand before debutant Matheesha Pathirana broke the stand by trapping the latter in front of the stumps for 18.
Matthew Wade joined in and added 31 runs for the second wicket along with Saha before the former perished while trying to attack Moeen Ali for a 15 ball-20.
Pathirana claimed his second wicket by dismissing skipper Hardik Pandya with an off cutter and ended up getting a leading edge at mid off by Shivam Dube.
The 37 year old Saha scored the winning runs by guiding it past short third man for a boundary, as Gujarat overhauled the target with 5 balls to spare.
