Kolkata Knight Riders vs Chennai Super Kings March 26 Mumbai Match Report 2022

Ajinkya Rahane scored a quickfire 44 as Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the Chennai Super Kings comprehensively by 6 wickets in the opening match of the Indian Premier League 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.

After being asked to bat first by KKR skipper, CSK lost Ruturaj Gaikwad (0) in the first over, edging a short and wide delivery from Umesh Yadav to Nitish Rana at slip.

Devon Conway on his IPL debut chipped at a Yadav delivery to Shreyas Iyer at mid on for 3.

Robin Uthappa looked in great touch before being stumped brilliantly by Sheldon Jackson off Varun Chakravarthy for a 21 ball-28.

Ambati Rayudu (15) was run out following a horrible mix-up with skipper Ravi Jadeja.

Andre Russell then dismissed Shivam Dube as the Super Kings slumped to 61/5.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni along with Jadeja featured in a crucial unbeaten 70 run stand for the sixth wicket to take Chennai to a competitive total of 131/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Dhoni remained unbeaten on 50 off just 38 balls. His innings comprised off 7 fours and a solitary six.

For Knight Riders Umesh Yadav was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/20.

Chasing 132, Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer got Kolkata off to a solid start. The pair put on 43 runs for the opening wicket before the latter nicked a Dwayne Bravo delivery to Dhoni behind the stumps for 16.

Nitish Rana (21) slammed two fours and a six before miscuing a short delivery from Bravo to Rayudu at short fine leg.

Mitchell Santner gave CSK a glimmer of hope by dismissing the well set Rahane, flicking a back of a length delivery to Jadeja at mid wicket for 44.

However skipper Shreyas Iyer combined with Sam Billings brought the Knight Riders innings back on track with a 36 run stand for the fourth wicket before the latter holed out at the deep midwicket boundary by Tushar Deshpande for 25.

In the end, Kolkata overhauled the target with 9 balls to spare.

Umesh Yadav was declared the Player of the Match for his impressive spell.
