India vs Sri Lanka Second Test Day 1 Bengaluru Match Report 2022

Shreyas Iyer scored a fighting 92 as Team India dominated Day 1 of the pink ball test at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, India got off to a poor start as Mayank Agarwal (4) was run out following a mix up with Rohit Sharma.

Rohit fell for 15, outside edging a Embuldeniya delivery to De Silva at slips.

Virat Kohli along with Hanuma Vihari put on 47 runs for the third wicket before the latter nicked a Jayawickrama delivery behind the stumps for 31.

Dhananjaya de Silva then claimed the prize scalp of Kohli for 23, leaving the hosts in a spot of bother at 86/4.

The pair of Rishabh Pant along with Iyer featured in a crucial 40 run stand for the fourth wicket before the former was cleaned up by Lasith Embuldeniya for a quickfire 26 ball-39.

Ravindra Jadeja soon fell nicking a Embuldeniya delivery to Lahiru Thirimanne at slips for 4.

Shreyas and Ravichandran Ashwin featured in a 35 run stand for the seventh wicket before the latter edged a Dhananjaya de Silva delivery to the wicket keeper Niroshan Dickwella.

Suranga Lakmal playing his final Test, dismissed Axar Patel for 9. Praveen Jayawickrama wrapped up the innings by dismissing Shreyas Iyer stumped for a brilliant 92, as India were bowled out for 252. His knock came off 98 balls with 10 fours and 4 sixes.

For the visitors, Jayawickrama and Lasith Embuldeniya claimed 3 wickets each.

In reply, Jasprit Bumrah got India off to a fantastic start by sending back Kusal Mendis and Lahiru Thiramanne for 2 & 8 respectively.

Mohammed Shami then got into the act by claiming the wickets of opposition skipper Dimuth Karunaratne (4) and Dhananjaya de Silva (10) leaving Sri Lanka reeling at 28/4.

Angelo Matthews along with Charith Asalanka put on 22 runs for the fifth wicket before the latter miscued a Axar Patel delivery to Ravi Ashwin at mid off.

Matthews (43) fell just before stumps, guiding a slower delivery from Bumrah to Rohit at second slip.

At stumps the visitors reached 86/6 ,trailing India by 166 runs.
