India vs West Indies First T20I Kolkata Match Report 2022

Debutant Ravi Bishnoi claimed figures of 2/17, as India defeated West Indies by six wickets in the 1st T20 international at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday.

After being asked to bat first by Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar drew first blood by dismissing Brandon King in the first over, caught at point by Suryakumar Yadav for 4.

Nicholas Pooran got a reprieve when Bishnoi touched the ropes with his foot after taking a catch at long on off Yuzvendra Chahal.

However Chahal dismissed the dangerous Kyle Mayers leg before wicket for 31. The 21 year old Bishnoi pegged the visitors back with wickets of Roston Chase (4) and Rovman Powell (2) in the 11th over.

The pair of Pooran along with Kieron Pollard featured in a valuable 45 run stand for the sixth wicket before the latter was caught at long off by Virat Kohli off Harshal Patel for a fine 61. His knock came off 43 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes.

Pollard remained unbeaten on 24, as the West Indies ended up with a competitive score of 157/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

For India, Harshal Patel and Ravi Bishnoi claimed 2 wickets each.

Chasing 158, openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan got India off to a blazing start. The duo added 64 runs for the opening stand before the former was caught at mid wicket boundary by Odean Smith off Roston Chase for a breezy 19 ball-40.

Chase claimed his second wicket by dismissing Kishan caught at deep midwicket by Fabian Allen for 35. Allen then got into the act by claiming the prize scalp of former skipper Virat Kohli (17) straight down to long off’s throat.

Wicket keeper Rishabh Pant perished to Sheldon Cottrell for 8, leaving the hosts in a spot of bother at 114/4.

Suryakuamar Yadav (34*) and Venkatesh Iyer (24*) added an unbeaten 48 run stand for the fifth wicket as the hosts reached the target with 7 balls to spare.

For West Indies, Roston Chase was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/14.

Bishnoi was declared the Man of the Match for a fantastic bowling performance.
