Prasidh Krishna claimed figures of 4/12 as India defeated West Indies by 44 runs in the second one day international in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
West Indies stand in skipper Nicholas Pooran won the toss and elected to field first. The Men in Blue sent in Rishabh Pant to open the innings alongside Rohit Sharma.
However Kemar Roach struck early by dismissing Rohit caught behind the stumps for 5. Pant and former skipper Virat Kohli added 30 runs for the second wicket before Odean Smith struck twice- first by dismissing wicket keeper Pant and then removing Kohli caught behind leaving the hosts in a spot of bother at 43/3.
Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul featured in a 91 run stand for the fourth wicket before the latter was run out following a mix up with Yadav for 49.
Yadav’s 83 ball-64 ended when he top-edged a sweep off Fabian Allen to Alzarri Joseph at short fine leg. Washington Sundar (24) and Deepak Hooda (29) provided some useful contributions down the order to lift India to 237/9 in their allotted 50 overs.
For West Indies, Alzarri Joseph and Odean Smith bagged 2 wickets each.
Chasing 238, Windies opening pair of Shai Hope and Brandon King got their side off to a solid start. The duo added 32 runs for the first wicket before Prasidh Krishna claimed wickets of King (18) and Darren Bravo (1) respectively.
Yuzvendra Chahal then got into the act by dismissing Shai Hope caught at long on by Suryakumar for 27. Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder fell cheaply leaving the visitors reeling at 76/5.
Shamarh Brooks scored a fine 44 before Deepak Hooda claimed his maiden wicket by chipping a length delivery straight to Yadav at long on.
Fabian Allen and Akeal Hosein put on 42 runs for the seventh wicket before the former edged a Mohammed Siraj delivery behind the stumps for 13.
Hosein fought hard for his knock of 34, before a well-directed bouncer from Shardul Thakur ended his vigil as Rishabh Pant completed a fine diving catch behind the stumps.
Odean Smith slammed Thakur for a couple of sixes to keep the visitors in the hunt. However in the 45th over, he perished to a fine catch by Virat Kohli at deep midwicket off Washington Sundar for 24.
Krishna claimed the final wicket by trapping Kemar Roach (0) in front of the stumps, as the hosts clinched the three match series 2-0.
The 25 year old Krishna was declared the Man of the Match.
The third and final one day international will be played in Ahmedabad on Friday.
