Nicholas Pooran scored a quickfire 40 as West Indies defeated Bangladesh by 3 runs in a last-over thriller at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.

After being asked to bat first by Bangladesh skipper, West Indies lost both Evin Lewis and Chris Gayle cheaply to Mustafizur Rahman and Mahedi Hasan respectively.

The 26 year old Hasan claimed his second wicket by dismissing Shimron Hetmyer (9) caught at long on by Soumya Sarkar.

Roston Chase along with Nicholas Pooran resurrected the innings with a valuable 57 run stand for the fifth wicket before the former was caught at deep cover by Mohammad Naim off Shoriful Islam for a 22 ball-40. His knock comprised off 5 fours and 4 sixes.

Jason Holder who came in for the injured left-arm seamer Obed McCoy, scored some handy runs down the order to propel West Indies to 142/7.

For Bangladesh Mahedi Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam claimed 2 wickets each.

Chasing 143, Bangladesh got off to a terrible start as they lost both openers Mohammad Naim (17) and Shakib Al Hasan (9).

Liton Das along with Soumya Sarkar added 31 runs for third wicket before the latter fell to a brilliant diving catch by Gayle at short third man off Akeal Hosein.

Ravi Rampaul provided the vital breakthrough by dismissing Mushfiqur Rahim bowled while attempting a scoop.

Das was involved in yet another valuable 40 run stand for the fifth wicket along side Mahmudullah before the former was caught at long on by Holder off Bravo for 44.

With 13 needed off 6 balls, Andre Russell bowled a fantastic final over and conceded just nine runs, as the defending champions won the match by 3 runs.
