Suryakumar Yadav scored his second T20I fifty as India beat Sri Lanka by 38 runs in the first T20 International in Colombo on Sunday.
After being asked bat first by Sri Lanka skipper, India started disastrously by losing debutant Prithvi Shaw off the very first delivery by Dushmantha Chameera.
Shikhar Dhawan along with Sanju Samson stitched together a solid 51 run stand for the second wicket before the latter was trapped leg before wicket by Wanindu Hasaranga for 27.
Suryakumar Yadav and skipper Dhawan shared a 72 run partnership for the third wicket before the former was caught at deep backward square leg.
Yadav reached his half-century off 33 deliveries but was dismissed off the very next delivery. Hardik Pandya’s poor run with the bat continued, as he edged a Chameera delivery to wicket keeper Bhanuka.
Ishan Kishan’s unbeaten 14-ball 20* took his side to a competitive score of 164/5 at the end of their allotted 20 overs.
For Sri Lanka Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga claimed 2 wickets each.
Chasing 165, the home side lost Minod Bhanuka early caught at covers by Yadav off Krunal Pandya in the third over. Yuzvendra Chahal then got into the act by dismissing Dhananjaya de Silva bowled with a peach of a delivery.
Avishka Fernando was caught at deep square leg by Samson off Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a 23 ball 26. Deepak Chahar turned the game in the visitors favour by snaring the wickets of the well set Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga.
Kumar dismissed Isuru Udana and Dushmantha Chameera as the home side were bowled out for 126 in 18.3 overs.
The 31 year old Uttar Pradesh fast bowler was declared the Man of the Match award for his impressive bowling performance.
