West Indies vs Australia 4th T-20 Match Report 2021

Mitchell Marsh scored a brilliant 75 as Australia registered their first win by defeating West Indies by 4 runs in the fourth T-20 international at the Darren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia on Wednesday.

Australia included Jason Behrendorff in place of Josh Hazlewood while West Indies brought in Oshane Thomas, Akeal Hosein and Evin Lewis in place of Obed McCoy, Dwayne Bravo and Shimron Hetmyer.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Australia lost Matthew Wade in the second over. Mitchell Marsh along with skipper Aaron Finch added 114 runs for the second wicket before the latter was dismissed by Hayden Walsh for 53.

The Aussies lost a bit of momentum with Alex Carey, Moises Henriques and Ashton Turner departing cheaply.

Dan Christian provided the impetus in the end by scoring an unbeaten 33 off just 14 balls to take his side to a mammoth score of 189/6 at the end of 20 overs.

Hayden Walsh was West Indies best bowler with figures of 3/27.

Chasing 190, Windies got off to a quickfire start with both Lendl Simmons and Evin Lewis adding 62 runs for the opening stand. Adam Zampa provided the vital breakthrough by dismissing Lewis bowled for 31.

Chris Gayle and Andre Fletcher fell cheaply to Marsh and Zampa respectively reducing West Indies to 97/3.

Simmons along with Nicholas Pooran put on 35 runs for the fourth wicket before Marsh first dismissed Nicholas Pooran in the 16th over and then got rid of the well-set Simmons for 72.

Fabien Allen scored a 14 ball-29 before falling to Meredith in the penultimate over.

With 11 needed off the final over, Andre Russell failed to take his team past the finishing line as the visitors pulled off their first win of the tour. The fifth and the final T20 international will be played on 17th July, Saturday.

Mitchell Marsh was the pick of the bowlers for Australia with figures of 3/24, while Adam Zampa claimed 2 wickets.
