India Women vs England Women Second ODI Taunton Match Report 2021

Sophia Dunkley scored a sparkling unbeaten 73 as England Women beat India Women comfortably by five wickets in the second one day international to take a 2-0 lead on Wednesday.

After being asked to bat first by England Women, India Women’s opening pair of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma got India of to a good start. The pair added 56 runs before Smriti chopped a Cross delivery on to her stumps.

Jemimah Rodrigues who came in place of Punam Raut struggled with the bat as she was caught by Brunt for 8.

Shafali looked good in her knock of 44 before she was stumped by wicketkeeper Amy Ellen Jones off Sophie Ecclestone.

The pair of Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur steadied the ship with a solid 68 run stand for the fourth wicket before the latter departed for 19.

Sneh Rana skied a catch to Knight at mid off to give Cross her fifth wicket.

Taniya Bhatia and Shikha Pandey departed cheaply as Indian women slumped to 181 for 8. Skipper Raj while trying to steal a second run was run out for 59.

The duo of Jhulan Goswami and Poonam yadav added a valuable 29 runs for the last wicket as India were all out for 221.

Kate Cross was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 5/34, while Sophie Ecclestone claimed 3 wickets.

Chasing 222, England Women lost Tammy Beaumont bowled by Goswami for 18. The pair of Lauren Winfield-Hill and Heather Knight added 36 runs for the second wicket before the latter fell to Poonam Yadav.

Winfield Hill looked solid in her innings of 42 before she edged a Shikha Pandey delivery behind the stumps.

Nat Sciver fell to Sneh Rana leaving the home side in a spot of bother at 92/4. The duo of Amy Jones and Sophia Dunkley put on 41 runs for the fifth wicket before the former became Yadav’s second victim.

Sophia Dunkley (73)* and Katherine Brunt (33)* shared an unbeaten 92 run for the sixth wicket as home side chased the target of 222 with 15 balls to spare.

For India leg-spinner Poonam Yadav bagged two wickets, while veteran Jhulan Goswami, Shikha Pandey and Sneha Rana claimed a wicket each.

Kate Cross was declared the Man of the Match.
