Five Talking points from the first ODI between India and West Indies

If we look into the first game of the ODI between India and the West Indies in Chennai, we saw decent performances from the likes Rishabh Pant, Kedar Jadhav and Shreyas Iyer after a rare failure for the Indian top order. Team India made a total of 287 for loss of 8 wickets- skipper Kohli seemed satisfied with his batsmen, but the fans would’ve expected more, especially given the position India were in when Pant and Iyer had both got their eye in. Pollard knock in vain, Indian top order fires, Evin Lewis Injury & More- Five Talking points & Analysis- India vs West Indies Third T20 Mumbai December 2019

Kieron Pollard’s fine half century went in vain, as India defeated West Indies by 67 runs in the third and the final T20 International at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday. Pollard has played more games at the ground than any other Indian international bar Rohit Sharma, and his familiarity with the venue showed as he smashed six sixes and five fours in his 39 ball 68.

The visitors, fresh off a fine chase in Trivandrum, remained unchanged while India brought in Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav in place of Ravindra Jadeja and Yuzvendra Chahal to strengthen their bowling. Pollard won the toss, and as he had done in the Kerala capital, opted to bowl first.

South Africa U19 Cricket World Cup Squad 2020 | Bryce Parsons to captain Baby Proteas; no Ruan Terblanche

Hosts South Africa have today (December 10, 2019) officially announced their squad for the 2020 U19 Cricket World Cup. The Baby Proteas will be captained by Bryce Parsons, but there are some puzzling omissions, most notably Ruan Terblanche, the Boland star who played six of their seven ODI’s against Pakistan U19 earlier this year and also scored a century against the visitors.

North West wicketkeeper Khanya Cotani will be Parsons’ deputy at the event. South Africa are in Group D alongside Afghanistan, Canada and the United Arab Emirates, a relatively straightforward group for Lawrence Mahlatlane’s men. Winning the group will send the Baby Proteas into a quarterfinal against the second placed team from Group A- most likely to be either New Zealand or Sri Lanka.

Apart from Parsons, all eyes will also be on Bishops Old Boy Jonathan Bird, the highly regarded WP batsman and young all rounder Gerald Coetzee, who sent down the most overs in the 2019/20 CSA Four Day series before it took a break for the Mzansi Super League.

South Africa 15 member U19 World Cup Roster

Bryce Parsons (Captain) (Gauteng)
Khanya Cotani (Vice captain) North West
Luke Beaufort (Eastern Province)
Jonathan Bird (Western Province)
Merrick Brett (Northerns)
Achille Cloete (Boland)

Five Talking points & Analysis- India vs West Indies Second T20 Thiruvananthapuram December 2019

A fine half century from West Indies opener Lendl Simmons- his first in this format since the 2016 World Cup, saw the visitors defeat India by 8 wickets in the second T20 international at Trivandrum on Sunday.

Simmons’ 67, ably supported by quickfire knocks from Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran, saw the Windies comfortably overhaul the target of 171 with nine balls to spare. Continue reading “Five Talking points & Analysis- India vs West Indies Second T20 Thiruvananthapuram December 2019”

Five Talking points & Analysis- India vs West Indies First T-20 Hyderabad December 2019

Skipper Virat Kohli scored a masterful 94 as India comfortably chased down a seemingly stiff target of 208 in the first T-20 against the West Indies in Hyderabad on Friday.

India traditionally tend to be slow starters- Bangladesh beat them in Delhi last month in that series opener, but with Kohli back in the squad, they didn’t falter against the T20 world champions in Gachibowli.
