Shikhar Dhawan and Manish Pandey added 95 runs for the third wicket, before Manish Pandey fell to Gunathilaka of the bowling of Jeevan Mendis.
Shikhar Dhawan scored a breezy 90 runs of 49 balls, while Manish Pandey along Rishabh Pant and from Dinesh Karthik chipped in with crucial knocks to take India to a competitive total of 174/5 in 20 overs.
After being set a target of 175 runs, Washington Sundar gave India an early breakthrough by dismissing Kusal Mendis.
The day belonged to Lankan batsman Kusal Perera who raced to quickfore 66 runs from just 37 balls.
He was severe on Shardul Thakur by scoring 27 runs in his first over.
Sri Lanka lost their momentum in the middle stages, but Shanaka and NLTC Perera ensured that there were not any further hiccups and guided their team to a comfortable 5 wicket win.
