Pakistan vs South Africa Chennai 2023 Attendance 29,983 Chepauk MA Chidambaram World Cup

A very fine crowd of 29,983 was in attendance at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai as South Africa beat Pakistan in a thriller. The win took the Proteas to the top of the table on NRR.

There were always doubts about the Proteas’ ability to chase in pressure situations following their loss to the Netherlands earlier in the tournament, and they very nearly made a mess here of what was otherwise seemingly a straightforward chase, going from 206/4 after 33 overs to 250/8 in the 42nd over.

However the troika of Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi and Tabraiz Shamsi hung on gamely and despite a wonder catch by Haris Rauf in his final over to dismiss Ngidi, it came down to 5 to win, with the pacers having finished their spells. Babar Azam oddly tossed the ball to Mohammad Nawaz instead of specialist spinner Usama Mir, and the left armer bowled one down leg than Maharaj was able to tuck away to the boundary to give South Africa a famous victory.

England vs South Africa Wankhede Mumbai Attendance 28033 Cricket World Cup- Jansen and Klaasen star

A very good crowd of 28,033 was in attendance at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai as South Africa bounced back from their shock loss against Netherlands to thrash defending champions England by 229 runs.

The Proteas had a late change, with regular skipper Temba Bavuma withdrawing due to illness and Reeza Hendricks taking his place. England made 3 changes, with Gus Atkinson, Ben Stokes and David Willey coming in for Sam Curran, Chris Woakes and Liam Livingstone.

Hendricks’ 85 gave South Africa a strong platform after a slow initial start and Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen scored 143 off the final 10 overs as the Proteas scored 399 in their allotted 50 overs. South Africa vs Netherlands Dharamshala 2023 Attendance 11,224 Cricket World Cup 17 October

A very decent crowd of 11,224 was in attendance at the HPCA Stadium in picturesque Dharamshala as the Netherlands pulled off one of the greatest upsets in their cricket history by beating South Africa by 38 runs.

Holland were put in by SA skipper Temba Bavuma- not surprising given the overcast conditions in Dharamshala that had delayed the start of play by two hours, and were 140/7 at one stage before skipper Scott Edwards’ sparkling half century, aided by timely cameos from former Protea Roelof van der Merwe and tailender Aryan Dutt, saw them pick up a staggering 104 runs off the last 9 overs.

SA v NED

The Dutch used spin in the powerplay and South Africa started cautiously in their powerplay. The loss of double WC centurion Quinton de Kock to Colin Ackermann saw a mini collapse as the Proteas went from 36/0 to 44/4. Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller steadied things before Klaasen pulled a wide delivery from Logan van Beek straight down the throat of Vikram Singh at third man. Van Beek also accounted for Miller and despite the best efforts of Keshav Maharaj at the end, South Africa simply had too much to do, and fell short by 38 runs. South Africa record vs Sri Lanka in ICC Events (World Cup + Champions Trophy) | Proteas H2H v SL

Here is a look at South Africa’s record against Sri Lanka in ICC events (World Cup + Champions Trophy) ahead of their 2023 World Cup opener in Delhi this weekend.

Somewhat interestingly, the Proteas have a very good H2H record against Sri Lanka in ICC events, winning 10 of the 14 games between the two sides so far. The only defeats came back in 1992 (World Cup) and 2009 & 2014 (T20 World Cups).

The Proteas beat SL in both the 2015 (quarterfinal) and 2019 World Cups and will be looking to make it a hat trick of victories at the Ferozshah Kotla this weekend.
