Gulbadin Naib claimed figures of 4/20 as Afghanistan stunned Australia by 21 runs in the Super 8 fixture at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent on Sunday.
After being asked to bat first, Afghanistan openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran got their side off to a magnificent start. The pair added 118 runs for the opening stand before Stoinis broke the stand by dismissing the former for 60.
Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa claimed wickets in the middle stages by restricting Afghanistan’s acceleration in the end overs, as they finished at 148/6 in their 20 overs.
In response, Australia were rocked early as Naveen-ul- Haq cleaned up Travid Head for a duck and then claimed skipper Mitchell Marsh with a slower ball for 12.
Mohammad Nabi then got into the act by dismissing David Warner for 3. The pair of Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis added 39 runs for the fourth wicket stand. Gulbadin Naib turned the game in Afghanistan favous by claiming wickets of Stoinis, Tim David,Glenn Maxwell and Pat Cummins as Australia were bowled out for 127 runs in 19.2 overs.
With this win, Afghanistan keep their semifinal hopes alive.
