Hardik Pandya scored a brilliant unbeaten 50 as India defeated Bangladesh by 50 runs at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
After being asked to bat first, openers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli got India off to a quickfire start. The duo added 39 runs for the opening stand before the former perished to Shakib al Hasan for 23.
Kohli featured in yet another 32 run stand for the second wicket alongside Rishabh Pant. Tanzim Hasan Sakib then pegged India back by claiming wickets of Kohli (37) and Suryakumar Yadav (6) as they slumped to 77/3.
Rishabh Pant and Shivam Dube put on 31 runs for the fourth wicket stand before Rishad Hossain dismissed Pant for 36.
However Hardik Pandya’s scintillating 27 ball-50 powered India to 196/5 in their 20 overs.
In response, Openers Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan got Bangladesh off to a steady start. The pair added 35 runs for the opening stand before Hardik broke the partnership by dismissing Litton in the fifth over.
Tanzid along with Najmul Hossain Shanto put on 31 runs for the second wicket. Kuldeep Yadav then brought the Men in Blue into the contest by bagging wickets of Hasan, Towid Hridoy and Shakib Al Hasan as the Tigers slumped to 98/4.
Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah then claimed 2 wickets each as Bangladesh ended up with 146/8, thereby giving India their fifth win.
