Ravi Ashwin claimed figures of 5/ 51 as India took firm control at the end of Day 3 of the fourth test against England at Ranchi on Sunday.
Resuming at overnight score of 219/7, the overnight pair of Dhruv Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav frustrated the England by adding 34 more runs before James Anderson finally broke the latter deflected a delivery from Anderson back into the stumps for 28.
Jurel featured in yet another valuable 40 run stand for the ninth wicket alongside Akash Deep before the latter was trapped leg before wicket by Shoaib Bashir for 9.
Wicket keeper Jurel (90) was looking set for a maiden Test hundred, but was bowled by a peach off a delivery from Hartley that angled in and spun away. India were eventually bowled out for 307, giving England an overall lead of 46.
In response, Ashwin got India off to a perfect start. The star spinner claimed Ben Duckett (15), caught at short leg by Sarfaraz Khan. With the very next delivery, Ollie Pope was dismissed leg before wicket for a golden duck.
The pair of Zak Crawley and Joe Root put on 46 runs for the third wicket stand before Root was trapped leg before wicket with a full and straight delivery by Ashwin for 11.
Bairstow and Crawley added 45 for the fourth wicket before the latter was bowled through the gate for 60. . England captain Ben Stokes (4) was dismissed by Kuldeep with the delivery that kept low and went in between his legs and the bails got dislodged.
England slipped even further as Bairstow chipped a delivery from Ravi Jadeja to short cover for 30.
Tom Hartley (7) fell to a superb diving catch by Sarfaraz at deepish mid on. Ollie Robinson (0) was dismissed right in front of the stumps from Kuldeep.
Ashwin claimed the last two wickets to fall to complete a well-deserved five-fer as England were bundled out for 145, with an lead of 191.
Chasing 192, India went to stumps at 40/0 after eight overs, with Rohit Sharma unbeaten on 24 and Yashasvi Jaiswal on 16.
