Australia skipper Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood each bagged 4 wickets each in front of 26,361 crowd as the hosts took firm control at the end of Day 1 of the opening test against West Indies at Adelaide on Wednesday.
After being asked to bat first, Cummins got the hosts off to a perfect start by snaring Tagenarine Chanderpaul to a fine catch by Cameron Green for 6 ad then dismissing Kraigg Brathwaite.
Alick Athanaze (13) then offered no stroke to a delivery from Josh Hazlewood. Debutant Kirk McKenzie along with Kavem Hodge added 46 runs for the fourth wicket stand before the latter perished to Hazlewood for 13.
McKenzie’s dismissal triggered collapse as Cummins and Hazlewood tightening their grip and claimed wickets at regular intervals as the visitors slumped to 133/9.
However Shamar Joseph along with Kemar Roach added 55 crucial runs for the last wicket to take West Indies to 188.
In response, Steven Smith and Usman Khawaja got Australia off to a steady start. The pair added 25 runs for the opening stand before the former was caught at slips by Greaves off Shamar Joseph for 12.
Marnus Labuschagne top-edged a hook to Motie at long leg, as Australia ended day at 59/2, still trailing by 129 runs.
