Marnus Labuschagne kept the Pakistan bowlers at bay in front of 62,167 crowd by scoring a fine unbeaten 44 as Australia ended opening day at 187/3 in the rain interrupted opening day of the second Test in Melbourne on Tuesday .

After being asked to bat first David Warner got a reprieve on 2, when Abdullah Shafique dropped a sitter at second slip off Shaheen Shah Afridi.

The left hander made use of this opportunity and added 90 runs for the opening stand alongside Usman Khawaja before the former finally edged a delivery from Agha Salman to Babar Azam in the final over before lunch for 38.

Hasan Ali then dismissed Khawaja for 42. The pair of Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith added 46 runs for the third wicket stand before the latter was dismissed by Aamer Jamal for 26.

At the end of stumps, Labuschagne was unbeaten on 44 and Travis Head was batting on nine.
