Zak Crawley scored a scintillating 189 as England ended Day 2 in an commanding position at 384/4 against Australia at at Old Trafford in Manchester on Thursday.
Resuming at 299/8, James Anderson got England off to a good start by claiming Pat Cummins (1) off the very first delivery, caught at cover point by Ben Stokes.
Chris Woakes then claimed his maiden fifer by dismissing Josh Hazlewood as Australia were bowled out for 317.
In response the hosts suffered an early jolt, as Ben Duckett (1) nicked a delivery from Mitchell Starc outside off-stump to wicket keeper Alex Carey for 1.
The pair of Crawley and Moeen Ali featured in a 121 run stand for the second wicket before the latter fell to a brilliant diving catch at mid wicket by Usman Khawaja off Starc for 54.
The 25 year old Crawley was involved in yet another magnificent 206 run stand alongside Joe Root. The England opener reached 150 by smashing Pat Cummins for successive boundaries.
However his fantabulous knock ended as he dragged a short ball from Cameroon Green onto his stumps for 189. His knock came off just 182 balls with 21 fours and 3 sixes.
Former skipper Joe Root (84) was then cleaned up by Josh Hazlewood with a delivery that kept low.
England ended Day 2 at 384/4, with an overall lead of 67. Harry Brook and Ben Stokes were unbeaten on 14 & 24 respectively.
