Prabhsimran Singh scored a sparkling hundred as the Punjab Kings defeated the Delhi Capitals by 31 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday.
After being asked to bat first, Punjab lost skipper Shikhar Dhawan (7) early as he flicked a delivery from Ishant Sharma to Rilee Rossouw at deep square leg. Ishant claimed his second wicket by knocking over Liam Livingstone for 4.
Axar Patel then got into the act by cleaning up Jitesh Sharma (5), leaving Punjab in a spot of bother at 45/3.
Prabhsimran along with Sam Curran brought the innings back on track with a valuable 72 run stand for the fourth wicket. The Punjab opener got a reprieve on 68, when Rilee Rossouw dropped a catch at deep backward square leg off Praveen Dubey.
However Dubey hit back by dismissing Sam Curran off the next delivery, caught by Aman Hakim Khan for 20. The 22 year old Prabhsimran reached his maiden hundred with successive boundaries off Khaleel Ahmed to take Punjab Kings to 167/7 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 168, openers David Warner and Phil Salt got Capitals off to a blistering start. The duo added 69 runs for the opening wicket before Harpreet Brar broke the partnership by dismissing Salt bowled for 21.
Left arm spinner Brar then struck a body blow by dismissing the well set Warner leg before wicket for 54. His knock came off 27 balls with 10 fours and a solitary six.
Axar Patel and Manish Pandey then fell soon after, as Delhi slumped to 88/6. In the end DC managed to reach 136/8 in their 20 overs, thereby falling 31 run short of the target.
