Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill scored fine half centuries as Gujarat Titans beat Lucknow Super Giants by 56 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
After being asked to bat first by LSG skipper, Saha and Gill got Gujarat off to a scintillating start. The pair added 142 runs for the opening stand before the former (81) fell to a spectacular catch by substitute fielder Prerak Mankad off Avesh Khan.
Skipper Hardik Pandya scored a quickfire 15 ball-25 before perishing to Mohsin Khan. David Miller (21)* struck some lusty blows towards the end to take Gujarat to 227/2 in their 20 overs. Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 94.
Chasing 228, Lucknow openers Quinton De Kock and Kyle Mayers got their side off to a brilliant start. The duo added 88 runs for the first wicket before the latter fell to a magnificent sliding catch off Mohit Sharma for 48.
Deepak Hooda (11) then miscued a full-toss from Mohammed Shami to Rahul Tewatia at deep midwicket. Mohit Sharma then got into the act by dismissing Marcus Stoinis caught at short third man for 4.
In the very next over star Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan dented Lucknow’s hopes by cleaning up Quinton De Kock for a fine 70. His knock came off 41 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes.
Ayush Badoni tried his best but failed to get support from the others as LSG finished at 171/7, thereby falling short by 56 runs.
Shubman Gill was declared the Player of the Match for his fantastic knock.
