Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kolkata Knight Riders Game 36 April 26 Bengaluru Match Report 2023

Varun Chakravarthy claimed figures of 3/27 as Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 21 runs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

After being asked to bat first openers Jason Roy and N Jagadeesan got Kolkata off to a brisk start. The duo added 83 runs for the opening wicket before the former was caught at deep midwicket by David Willey off Vijaykumar Vyshak for 27.

In the same over Vyshak claimed the prize scalp of the dangerous Roy bowled for 56. His knock came off 29 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes.

KKR skipper Nitish Rana was let off twice- once by Siraj on 5 and then by Harshal Patwl at fine leg on 19. The Knight Riders skipper capitalized on the opportunity by scoring a breezy 48. His fine innings ended when a miscued a reverse sweep off Wanindu Hasaranga to Vyshak.

However a late blitz from Rinku Singh (18*) and David Wiese (12*) in the end propelled KKR reach 200/5 in their 20 overs.

Chasing 201, RCB opening pair of Faf Du Plessis and Virat Kohli got RCB off to a steady start. The pair added 31 runs for the opening stand before the former fell to a fine catch by Rinku Singh off Suyash Kumar for 17.

Shahbaz Ahmed (2) was then trapped leg before wicket by Suyash while attempting a sweep. Varun Chakravarthy pegged RCB back by claiming the wicket of Glenn Maxwell, caught at mid off by David Wiese for 5.

However Kohli along with Mahipal Lomror resurrected the innings with a 55 run stand for the fourth wicket before the latter was caught at deep midwicket for 34.

Andre Russell then dented Bangalore’s hope by dismissing Kohli (54) caught at deep midwicket, where Venkatesh Iyer took a brilliant diving catch, leaving their side in big trouble at 115/5.

Dinesh Karthik scored a 18 ball-22 but it was not enough as RCB ended up with 179/8 in their 20 overs, thereby losing the contest by 21 runs.
