Shubman Gill’s 56 and a quickfire 42 from Abhinav Manohar helped Gujarat Titans beat the Mumbai Indians by 55 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
After being asked to bat first, Arjun Tendulkar struck early by dismissing Wriddhiman Saha (4) caught down the leg side while attempting a pull.
Skipper Hardik Pandya then holed out to Suryakumar Yadav in the deep off Piyush Chawla for 13. The pair of Gill along with Vijay Shankar put on 41 runs for the third wicket before the former was caught at long on by Yadav off Kumar Kartikeya for a 34 ball-56.
Shankar fell to Chawla soon after while attempting a big hit for 19. However David Miller along with Abhinav Manohar added 71 runs for the fifth wicket before the latter was caught by Jason Behrendorff off Riley Meredith for a breezy 21 ball-42.
Rahul Tewatia (20)* provided a final flourish in the end to take Gujarat to a massive 207/6 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 208, Mumbai Indians got off to a bad start as Rohit Sharma fell to his opposition skipper Hardik Pandya, offering a return catch off a leading edge for 2.
Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green put on 39 runs for the second wicket stand before Rashid Khan struck twice- first by dismissing Ishan and then dismissing the Impact Player Tilak Varma leg before wicket for 2.
Noor Ahmad then struck a double blow by cleaning up Cameron Green (33) and Tim David (0) who miscued a low full toss to Abhinav Manohar, as MI lost half their side for 59.
Suryakumar Yadav along with Nehal Wadhera put on 31 runs for the sixth wicket before the former chipped a return catch to Ahmad for 23.
Nehal Wadhera scored a defiant 40, but it wasn’t enough as Mumbai Indians ended up with 152/9, thereby losing the contest by 55 runs.
