Nicholas Pooran scored a swashbuckling 62 as Lucknow Super Giants defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 1 wicket in a thriller at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday.
After being asked to bat first by LSG skipper KL Rahul openers Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plessis got Bangalore off to a fantastic start. The pair added 96 runs for the opening stand before the former miscued a delivery from Amit Mishra to Marcus Stoinis at deep midwicket for 61.
Du Plessis featured in yet another 115 run stand for the second wicket alongside Glenn Maxwell before the latter was knocked over by Mark Wood for a sizzling 29 ball-59.
The former South Africa skipper Du Plessis remained unbeaten on 79 as RCB ended up with a massive score of 212/2 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 213, Mohammed Siraj drew first blood by dismissing the in form Kyle Mayers, bowled for a duck.
Wayne Parnell then got into the act by dismissing Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya in succession as Lucknow slumped to 23/3.
However a magnificent 30-ball 65 from Marcus Stoinis and a sparkling 19-ball 62 from Nicholas Pooran titled the balance in Lucknow’s favour.
With 5 needed off the final over, Harshal Patel cleaned up Mark Wood (1) with a slower delivery. Jaydev Unadkat (9) then holed out to Du Plessis at long on off the penultimate delivery.
With one needed off the final delivery, Avesh Khan missed a straight one from Harshal Patel, but Dinesh Karthik fumbled with the gloves allowing Avesh and Ravi Bishnoi to complete a bye and seal a famous win.
