Rinku Singh smashed Yash Dayal for five successive sixes in the final over as Kolkata Knight Riders pulled off a thrilling win against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first openers Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill got Gujarat off to a solid start. The duo put on 33 runs for the opening wicket before the former perished to Sunil Narine for a run a ball 17.
Young Gill looked good in his innings of 39, before holing out to Umesh Yadav at long on off Narine.
Abhinav Manohar (14) after scoring three successive fours off Umesh was cleaned up by a googly from Suyash Sharma.
Left hander Sai Sudarshan continued his good form with the bat by reaching yet another half century. However his fine knock of 53 ended, when he was caught at long off by substitute AS Roy.
Vijay Shankar (63) provided a final flourish towards the end by smashing Shardul Thakur for three consecutive sixes in the final over to take Gujarat to a mammoth score of 204/4 in their allotted 20 overs. His knock came off 24 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes.
Chasing 205, Kolkata lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz (15) and N Jagadeesan (6) to Mohammed Shami and Josh Little.
Impact Player Venkatesh Iyer along with skipper Nitish Rana brought the innings back on track with a valuable 100 run stand for the third wicket before the latter chipped a delivery from Alzarri Joseph to Shami at mid off for 45.
Joseph then pegged KKR back by removing the dangerous Iyer (83), caught at long on by Shubman Gill. His knock came off 40 balls with 8 fours and 5 sixes.
Rashid Khan then claimed a hat trick by dismissing Andre Russell (0), Sunil Narine (0) and last match hero Shardul Thakur (0) to put the Titans in a winning position.
With 29 needed off the final over, Rinku Singh (48)* smacked Yash Dayal for five consecutive sixes to take Kolkata to a memorable 3 wicket win.
