Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore Game 9 April 6 Kolkata Match Report 2023

Shardul Thakur scored a sparkling 68 as Kolkata Knight Riders beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 81 runs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday.

After being sent into bat, Kolkata got off to a poor start as David Willey cleaned up Venkatesh Iyer (3) and Mandeep Singh (0) off consecutive deliveries.

Skipper Nitish Rana (1) then gloved a reverse sweep off Michael Bracewell to wicket keeper Dinesh Karthik.

The pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz along with Rinku Singh steadied the ship with a fourth wicket stand of 42 runs before the former reverse swept leg spinner Karn Sharma to Akash Deep at short third man for a well made 57.

Andre Russell then miscued a big hit off Karn to Virat Kohli for a golden duck.

The duo of Rinku (46) and Shardul Thakur (68) bailed the Knight Riders out of trouble to take their side to a mammoth score of 204/7 in their 20 overs.

Chasing 205, Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plessis got Bangalore off to a steady start. The duo added 44 runs for the opening stand before the former was cleaned up by Sunil Narine while trying to play across the line.

Du Plessis then perished to Varun Chakravarthy in the next over. Chakravarthy then also dismissed Glenn Maxwell and Harshal Patel.

Bangalore lost half their side for 61 when Shahbaz Ahmed (one) reverse-swept Sunil Narine straight to Shardul Thakur at deep point. Young leg-spinner Suyash Sharma, who was brought in as the impact player claimed wickets of Dinesh Karthik, Anuj Rawat and Karn Sharma.

Willey (20*) and Akash Deep (17) scored some useful runs down the order as RCB were bundled out for 123, thereby losing the contest by 81 runs.

Thakur was declared the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock.
