Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva claimed figures of 4/20 as Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Kolkata Knight Riders in a thriller at the DY Patil Stadium on Wednesday.
After being asked to bat first by RCB skipper Faf Du Plessis, Kolkata got off to a poor start as Venkatesh Iyer (10) perished in the fourth over, top-edging an attempted pull off Akash Deep.
Mohammed Siraj then got into the act by dismissing Ajinkya Rahane (9) caught at deep backward square leg by Shahbaz Ahmed.
Nitish Rana fell to a spectacular catch by David Willey off Deep for a 5 ball-10.
Hasaranga then dismissed Narine (12) and Sheldon Jackson (0) off consecutive deliveries as the Knight Riders slumped to 67/6.
Andre Russell slammed three sixes and a four before edging a wide delivery off Harshal Patel behind the stumps for 25.
Umesh Yadav (18) and Varun Chakravarthy (10*) in the end scored some useful runs down the order to take KKR to 128.
Wanindu Hasaranga was the pick of the bowlers for RCB with figures of 4/20, while Akash Deep bagged 3 wickets.
Chasing 129, RCB started disastrously by losing Anuj Rawat (0), Faf du Plessis (5) and Virat Kohli (12) with the score on 17.
The pair of David Willey and Sherfane Rutherford steadied the ship with a solid 45 run stand for the fourth wicket before the former chipped a Sunil Narine delivery to Nitish Rana at midwicket.
Rutherford was involved in yet another valuable 39 run stand for the fifth wicket along with Shahbaz Ahmed before the latter was stumped by Sheldon Jackson off Varun Chakravarthy for a 20 ball-27.
Southee kept KKR’s hopes alive by dismissing Sherfane Rutherford (28) and Hasaranga (4) in quick succession.
Harshal hit Venkatesh Iyer for 2 boundaries to bring the equation down to 7 off the final over.
However Karthik held his nerves and smashed Russell for a six and a four off the first two deliveries to seal the win.
